SHAMEFUL AND SICKENING

The picture which speaks more than words can say shows a smiling D.U.P. Leader Dr. Ian Paisley sitting at a diamond shape table with Sinn Fein Leader Gerry Adams M.P. The picture was taken at a March 26th press conference to mark the announcement of a DUP/Sinn Fein power sharing government for Northern Ireland by May 8th. Note how Adams displays on his lapel an ‘Easter Lily’ commemorating the 1916 ‘Stab in the Back’, uprising in Dublin – blessed by the Pope of that day. This is the same Gerry Adams who carried the coffin of Begley the IRA man who carried out the Shankill Bomb massacre.

True Protestants are saddened, sickened and shamed by Dr Paisley’s behaviour. Truly we have learned a bitter lesson from God’s Word which says;

"Put not your trust in Princes, nor in the Son of Man in whom there is no help” - Psalm 146:3

To Dr Paisley who many now see as an Ulster version of Marshall Petain we ask:

"Shouldest thou help the ungodly and love them that hate the Lord? Therefore is wrath upon thee from the Lord” - 2 Chronicles 19:2

SHOT PRIEST THANKS PAISLEY FOR SUPPORT

The North Belfast priest who was seriously injured during an apparent armed robbery in South Africa has thanked the Rev.
Ian Paisley for his wishes of support. Father Kieran Creagh was shot twice by robbers at the hospice he founded to help
Aids sufferers in Pretoria. Surgeons had to remove one of the bullets from his lung.

Fr Creagh said he wanted to thank DUP leader Mr Paisley, who had been one of many people from Northern Ireland who
had sent him messages of support.

"Ian Paisley contacted my brother Liam to say he was ‘thinking and praying for your brother the priest’ and that is just brilliant. Thanks Ian – honest to God, that’s brilliant,” he said.

Fr Creagh (44), who is originally from the Crumlin Road, told the BBC of the moment he came face to face with a gang of armed men at the Aids hospice he founded almost four years ago in a deprived suburb of Pretoria.

The men had reportedlyhandcuffed a security guard before confronting Fr Creagh at the door of his flat at the hospice.

Fr Kieran Creagh in hospital

"I was saying, ‘Don’t point that gun at me. What are you doing here? This is a hospice, people are dying here, they don’t need this rubbish - go on home,’” Fr Creagh said. “They shot me outside my door first and then, as I was running along the courtyard, they shot me again.”

Fr Creagh also told the Spotlight programme, that others who expressed their concern include the President of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki, and the Mayor of Pretoria, Gwen Ramokgopa.

Since the incident, Fr Creagh has made what his family describe as “a remarkable recovery.”

Whilst we wish the priest no harm whatever – surely the theological position of Free Presbyterianism is that a “Missionary” Roman Catholic priest leads thousands of Africans into a “Lost Eternity.”

IS THIS THE FACE OF A "NEW" DUP?

Pictured above Councillor William Irwin – recently elected DUP MLA for Newry and Armagh. The picture taken at a
Christmas reception in Armagh – shows Mrs Irwin shaking hands with Roman Catholic Archbishop Sean Brady. Such a
thing would have been unthinkable just a short time ago. We are told that the Irwin's worship in the “Separatist” Free Presbyterian Church.

One more question for the Irwin's – if Pope Benedict who many Bible Christians believe occupies the role of Anti-Christ
responds to invitations to come to Ireland and visit Armagh, will you meet and greet him also?

The Bible says; “If there come any unto you and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house neither bid him God speed for he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.” -2 John1:10-11

HAVE ULSTER PROTESTANTS "LOST THE PLOT"?

Pictured here is David Tweedie of Portadown who we are told is an Orangeman – playing his Lambeg Drum for Gerry Adams at the launch of the West Belfast Festival.

Yet Mr Tweedie could not march down the Garvaghy Road in Portadown due to the actions of Mr Adams' friends in the "Residents Association” who have denied Portadown Orangemen their right to hold a peaceful Church parade.

The same Gerry Adams for whom Mr Tweedie beats his drum covered the tri-colour draped coffin of the Shankill Bomber.

"By the Rivers of Babylon, there we sat down, yea we wept when we remembered Zion. We hanged our harps upon the willows in the midst thereof. For there they that carried us away captive required of us a song; and they that wasted us required of us mirth saying sing us one of the songs of Zion. How shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land?”- Psalm 137:1-4

JIM ALLISTER, MEP, QUITS THE DUP

Jim Allister said the Paisley/Adams meeting at Stormont "made his stomach churn", as he resigned from the DUP over the decision to powershare. The MEP, having internally fought against the move into government with Sinn Fein, said he accepted he had “lost the battle”, with the passing of the DUP Executive’s resolution and then the Paisley/Adams "spectacle". And his conscience, he added, would not allow him to remain in the party when he totally opposed the path now taken.

Mr Allister claimed DUP election manifesto pledges, of just a short while ago, had been broken by agreeing to enter an executive with Sinn Fein.

He said proper delivery on policing and the disbandment of the IRA Army Council had been abandoned.

And, he suggested, some in the DUP had put ego, personal advancement and power, ahead of principle. This, he explained,
he could not and would not do.

But while he stepped down from the party, Mr Allister said he intended to continue as an Ulster MEP retaining his seat as an independent. He said he would fulfil the role until the next European election in 2009 though sources in the DUP said he
could face pressure to give up his EU seat which they said he had won on the back of the DUP name.

Mr Allister, meanwhile, ruled out forming any type of hardline unionist party and refused to encourage others of a similar
opinion to quit the DUP stressing that people had to make their own mind up on these matters. Asked by the News Letter
if, at that point in two years time, he would be finished with politics, he answered:

“I’m not slamming any doors. We will see how things are then. I’m not ruling anything in or out.”

Reading from a prepared statement, at a press conference in his east Belfast office, he said:

“It is with immense sadness that I must resign from the DUP.”

"To continue as the DUP’s MEP it would be my obligation to accept the party executive's policy decision to usher Sinn Fein into government in a few short weeks. This, in conscience, I cannot do.”

He said the DUP mantra of delivery had disappeared. Yet present commitments from republicans on policing, he claimed, were “at best equivocal”.

Comments, such as those by Sinn Fein MP Michelle Gildernew, calling for the release of two men being questioned and now charged in connection with an attempted murder were “outrageous”. But the DUP was set on going into government
anyway, he added, and “while the IRA Army Council still exists”.

The phrase “delivery to our satisfaction” had become “so diluted as to have become meaningless”, he added.

“For me, the abolition of the Army Council was always the litmus test of the sincerity of Sinn Fein/IRA’s professed transition to involvement in an exclusively peaceful and democratic process," Mr Allister noted.

“The Army Council is the apex of the military structures of the republican movement.”

It had long been one of the DUP’s seven principles and was in the March 2007 election manifesto that those structures
must go, he recalled.

The DUP was going into government with a party which had an illegal terrorist army intact, said the MEP. It was another
“half way house” and not a government built on solid foundations, he believed. The DUP had bought into “another fudge.”

He continued:

“It seems to me that, sadly, the lure of office has clouded the party’s judgement.Personal interest and advancement might dictate that I too should ignore these issues. I cannot do so.”

Quizzed by reporters, Mr Allister defended the decision to remain as an MEP, when people had voted for him as a DUP
member saying that he had stuck to the principles people voted for him on.

He explained his decision was made before he saw the Paisley/Adams pictures.

“My stomach churned at what I saw,” he revealed. “At (the DUP) sitting down with those people and not knowing whether some of them are still members of the IRA Army Council. They filled coffins day upon day and I have yet to hear a word of regret or repentance or genuine remorse from those men. What I do hear is glorification of acts of terror by Mr Adams and I feel many people's stomachs churned and may churn still today.”

Despite his strong criticisms, Mr Allister concluded he left the DUP in sadness and had no intention of sparking some form of revolution against the party.

THE POPE DURING HIS RECENT VISIT TO TURKEY

Ankara’s top government religious official accused Pope Benedict XVI on 6 December of “doing injustice to Turkey” by declaring after his visit to Turkey that the country’s Roman Catholics live under difficult conditions.

In an interview with the semi official Anatolian News Agency, published in the liberal Radikal newspaper, Director of Religious Affairs Ali Bardakoglu complained that the problems of Turkey’s religious minorities had been exaggerated during the Pope’s visit.

Speaking from Rome on December 3, the Pontiff had expressed his “cordial thanks” to the Turkish authorities for their friendly hospitality during what he termed a fruitful and “unforgettable spiritual and pastoral experience” of Christian ecumenism and dialogue with Muslims.

But Benedict also noted in his Sunday address that the “small flock” of Roman Catholics in Turkey “live in conditions that are not easy.” His gentle but direct remark echoed similar comments sprinkled throughout his four days of public statements while in Turkey.

The Pope’s comments caused the foreign press to conclude, Bardakoglu objected, that “Turkey does not have religious freedom. This is an injustice to Turkey.”

"There are countless attacks on mosques in Europe, and Muslims are facing discrimination just because of their faith,” Bardakoglu said. “But we have never acted like this, making targeted accusations against the Western countries and all Christians over these actions.”

In effect, the Pope’s modest but repeated comments on religious freedom during the visit further dramatised the Vatican’s campaign for “reciprocity” between majority Muslim and Christian nations.

CATHOLICISM IN THE UK IS GROWING

Immigration is swelling attendance at Britain’s Catholic churches to such an extent that Roman Catholicismseems likely to become the dominant religion in Britain for the first time since the Reformation.

A new report by the Von Hugel Institute at Cambridge says the influx of migrants could be the Catholic community’s
‘greatest threat’ or its ‘greatest opportunity’. It suggests that hundreds of thousands of worshippers could descend on parishes in the next few years.

With new countries joining the European Union in recent years, and up to 95% of immigrants from countries like Poland practising Catholics, the potential increase in attendance is huge.

The face of Catholicism across Britain seems to be changing from Anglo-Irish, with a mindset of managing steady decline, to an organisation of unprecedented expansion and change in ethnic make up.

CHRISTIAN BROTHER CHARGED WITH ABUSE

An elderly Christian Brother, appeared in court on 18 charges of sexually abusing a child more than four decades ago. Br. Paul Coleman (77), from Nephian’s Road in Dublin, denies indecently assaulting a former pupil when he worked as a teacher at a Christian Brothers school in Belfast. The abuse is alleged to have started 43 years ago and involves one complainant.

A police officer from the PSNI’s Care Unit told Belfast Magistrates Court that she. believed she could connect the accused to all the charges. The former teacher’s solicitor, Denis Moloney, said the charges followed a “protracted investigation over a number of years”.

He told the court that his client, who is pleading not guilty to all charges, had co-operated fully with the investigating
police team. The case was adjourned and, after no objections were made. Br. Coleman was granted bail and ordered to appear before the same court in four weeks time when a preliminary enquiry is due to take place

THE HOLY SEEK

Holy Family-Pope with his parents

Revealed: Ad showing how Pope's Mum and Dad met

From ALLAN HALL in Berlin

The Pope has found the answer to the near century old secret of how his parents met, an advert in a Catholic lonely hearts column.

The revelation came as Benedict XVI returned to visit his former family home in the south German village of Marktl am Inn.

The Pontiff admits he never knew how his policeman father and cook mother met. But the discovery in an archive in his home state of Bavaria shows his father Joseph Ratzinger advertised for a wife who was a dab hand at housework and preferably with lots of money.

It was placed in the March 7, 1920 edition of the Aotoettinger Liebfrauen Messenger, a Catholic newspaper. Peter Becker, a former editor of the weekly, found the advert and gave the Pope a copy.

The Pontiff was “touched” by the story, saying it reminded him of the words of theologian Albert Schweitzer: “Coincidence is the pseudonym dear God chooses when he wants to remain incognito.”

The advert read:

"Middle ranking civil servant, single, Catholic, 43 years old, immaculate past, from the countryside, is seeking a good Catholic pure girl, who can cook well, and who can do all housework, who is also capable of sewing and a good homemaker in order to marry at the soonest opportunity. Personal fortune would be desirable but is not however a precondition. Offers, if possible with picture, to box number 734.”

The advert had no responses, so on July 11 Joseph placed it again.

Maria Peintner, born in 1884, replied and they met at a coffee house in Regensburg. They were married on November 9. They had three children, Georg, now 82 and a Catholic priest in Regensburg; Joseph, 79, the Pope; and a daughter, Maria, who died in 1991. Joseph died in 1959 and wife Maria in 1963. Neither explained to their children how they met.

Vandals pelted the Pope’s former family home in Marktl am Inn with balloons filled with blue paint. No serious damage was done to the house, bought by the Catholic Church earlier this year to turn into a museum. It outbid many others including a Saudi sheik to buy it from a German woman who said hordes of tourists were making her life a misery.

Built in 1745 as a customs house, the Pope lived there for two years after his birth on April 16, 1927

NO DEATH PENALTY FOR THE POPE!!

Pope Benedict has praised the Roman Catholic President of the Philippines for signing a law abolishing the death penalty in her country. Cardinal Paul Poupard, a leading Vatican official, has asked that Saddam Hussein should be spared the death penalty if the Iraqi court at present trying him should find him guilty In accordance with Roman teaching “no one can consider himself the proprietor of another’s life and death, except the Creator”.

What a pity Rome did not have such an attitude in the days of the Reformation – when it took the lives of 50 million Martyrs

UPROAR AS VATICAN TRIES TO GET KING DAVID'S TOMB

King David’s tomb, situated on Mount Zion, is one of Israel's most sacred sites. The Vatican is trying to gain ownership of the so called Cenacle, the alleged place of the Last Supper, which lies above it. The Israeli Government, ever looking to boost tourist income, has drawn up a draft agreement which would transfer much of the Crusader area to Rome together with the lucrative tourist interest, but the news has caused an outcry in Israel. The King David’s Tomb complex is a group of buildings covering some 100,000 square feet where David and Solomon, and kings of Judea, are said to be buried.

"It is certainly one of the holiest spots in the Land of Israel,” Rabbi Herman said. “We’ve already given away the Temple Mount and the Machpelah Cave, except for here and there when we’re allowed in; now they want to give Mt. Zion away as well? For thousands of years, this area was almost always totally closed off to Jews. God gave it back to us in 1948.”

Rome also wants to take control of the walk-ways throughout the area. There is talk of envelopes containing large sums of money being passed as bribes to overcome objections. Normally the Lands Authority requires open bidding on purchases of public sites but there has been no auction. There is said to be pressure from the United States for Israel to relent in some of its negotiations with the Vatican. It is proposed to charge visitors $10. At the moment access is free. Rome plans to hold masses in the Last Supper Room from 6 to 8 am. This has been denounced by Israelis as idolatry. Jews will only be allowed free access to the tomb between 7 and 9 in the morning.

MODERATOR SPEAKS AT CLONARD

Presbyterian Moderator Dr David Clarke took part in a question-and-answer session at Clonard Monastery in West Belfast. Dr Clarke spoke about his personal journey of faith and answered questions from the Clonard congregation on the subject of ‘All you ever wanted to know about Presbyterianism.’

Auxiliary Bishop of Down and Connor Dr Donal McKeown will take part in a future similar event at Fitzroy Presbyterian
Church in South Belfast, speaking about his own faith and answering questions on Catholicism.

Dr Clarke said: “I enjoyed the opportunity to speak about my faith as well as representing what Presbyterianism stands for.”

THE DYING MAN'S WISH

Daily Mail Reporter

Stricken with an illness that is likely to kill him before he reaches the age of 30, Nick Wallis had a special request to put to the nuns and nurses looking after him at the hospice. He asked them to help him find a prostitute and after some hesitation they did.

Mr Wallis, 22, persuaded them he should be allowed to have a sexual experience before he died. Knowing that he was now unlikely to have one in a loving relationship, he had decided his only alternative was to pay.

The case of Mr Wallis, who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, posed a major moral dilemma for Sister Frances Dominica, the founder of Douglas House hospice in Oxford, and the establishment’s ethics committee. After seeking advice to ensure they were not acting illegally, the decision was taken to support Mr Wallis, with nurse Chris Bloor helping him to find a suitable woman on disability sites on the Internet. Sister Frances said:

"We have known Nick for many years. He had been unable to form a relationship with a girl at university."

"He first shared with one of our doctors and then one of our nurses, his feelings of wanting to experience, if nothing else, a sexual relationship before he died something so many people take for granted. It has to be said that the charity debated this request at length. It's the first time we have ever been asked such a question."

The story of Mr Walls’s request will be featured next week in an episode of Children of Helen House, a BBC2 eight part series about a hospice for children and Douglas House, the neighbouring facility for young adults.

Sister Frances added:

"Nick decided that the only way forward was to pay for a sexual experience, with or without our support, and we came to the conclusion that it was our duty of care to support him. When Nick did make contact with the young woman, he met her at home, but with the Douglas House nurse and another adult in a different room in case he needed them."

Mr Wallis’s mother admitted that she struggled with her son's wish.

"It is not what I would wish for anyone, least of all Nick."

Mr Walls, who lives in Northamptonshire, said he had always hoped that he would experience sex as part of a close relationship.

"I began to accept that this might not happen for me,"he added.

He said he met the prostitute after his final degree exams last May.

"Her train was late, which did not help my nerves. She turned out to be intelligent and pleasant woman, attractive, in her late 20’s. I guess that she was used to relating to nervous people as she put me at ease. The two hours passed quickly and it was, you may say, satisfactory. I am pleased I had the tenacity and commitment to see it through. The experience, while not emotionally fulfilling, gave me confidence and a sense that I was not missing out. I do not think I will necessarily
choose to repeat it, although I have not ruled it out."

Helen House and Douglas House provide respite for exhausted parents of the terminally ill and end of life care for children and young adults.

Children of Helen House is shown on BBC2 on Tuesdays at 10pm.

ARCHBISHOP STANDS DOWN

Warsaw's new Archbishop has resigned over his involvement with the communist era secret police which has shaken the deeply Roman Catholic homeland of the late Pope John Paul II.

Bishop Stanislaw Wielgus announced his decision at the capital’s St John's Cathedral, packed with worshippers gathered for a Mass that was to have marked his formal installation. The congregation included President Lech Kaczynski.

The bishop read from a letter to Pope Benedict XVI in which he offered his resignation “after reflecting deeply and assessing my personal situation”.

Though president Kaczynski and some others applauded, many in the church and a large crowd packed outside in the rain shouted: "Stay with us,’’ and “No, No!”

The 67 year old bishop made his brief announcement less than an hour after Poland’s Church said in a statement that he had resigned. Revelations that Bishop Wielgus had contacts with the hated secret police of the communist regime, which ended in 1989, had shaken a country where many view the Church as a moral authority that bravely opposed the regime.

The case, which had simmered since mid December, expanded into a full blown crisis when a Church historical commission said it had found evidence that he had co-operated with the secret police.

The Bishop initially denied that, but then issued two statements acknowledging that he did sign an agreement in 1978 promising to co-operate with the security force in exchange for permission to leave Poland to study in West Germany. However, he stressed that he did not inform on anyone or try to hurt anyone and he expressed remorse for both his contacts with the secret police and his failure to be forthcoming from the beginning.

The Church said the Pope has asked the outgoing archbishop, Cardinal Jozef Glemp, to administer the archdiocese until a replacement is found.

In place of the installation, Cardinal Glemp who is also Poland's primate devoted Mass to a homily defending Bishop Wielgus.

He called him “God’s servant” and warned of the dangers of passing judgment based on incomplete and flawed documents left behind by the communist authorities.

The Vatican’s spokesman said the past actions of Bishop Wielgus had compromised his authority and he was right to resign.

POLISH NUNS AND PRIESTS REBEL

A group of Roman Catholic nuns in Poland have mounted an occupation of their convent in protest against the appointment of a new mother superior and are refusing to leave the building, despite being expelled from their order by the Vatican.

The dispute erupted in August 2005 at the Kazimierz mother house of the Sisters of the Family of Bethany, when the superior, Mother Jadwiga Ligocka, was dismissed by a Vatican delegate but she occupied the convent with other nuns.

Under a decree from the Vatican’s Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life, dated 28 October, the nuns were expelled from the order, which was founded in 1930 and has about 100 members.

The Polish Press Agency PAP reported earlier in December that Ligocka and her supporters had hired bodyguards after again refusing to accept the ruling.

A spokesperson for the Lublin archdiocese, Mieczyslaw Puzewicz, said tensions had surfaced after Ligocka claimed "private inspirations from the Holy Spirit’’.

The incident follows several allegations of insubordination by Catholic priests in Poland, who were warned in January by the Vatican nuncio that they had a duty to obey their leaders. [ENI]

WHY PRAY FOR ROMAN CATHOLICS?

THE DARK CONFESSIONAL

This picture is taken from an Irish Roman Catholic publication printed in 2007. Remember how Rome’s Saint Liguori said that if Jesus sat in one Confessional Box and Roman Catholic priest in the other, both would speak the words of absolution and both penitants would be equally absolved.
