THE LOUISIANA PURCHASE By a treaty signed on April 30, 1803, the United States purchased from France the Louisiana Territory more than 2 million square kilometres (800,000 square miles) of land extending from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains. The price was 60 million francs, about $15 million; $11,250,000 was to be paid directly with the baance to be covered by the assumption by the United States of French debts to American citizens. In 1762, France had ceded Louisiana to Spain, but by the secret Treaty of San Ildefonso (1800) the French had regained the area. Napoleon Bonaparte (the future Emperor Napoleon I) envisioned a great French empire in the New World, and he hoped to use the Mississippi Valley as a food and trade centre to supply the island of Hispaniola, which was to be the heart of this empire. First, however, he had to restore French control of Hispaniola, where Haitian slaves under Toussaint L’Ouverture had seized power (1801; see Haiti). In 1802 a large army sent by Napoleon under his brother-in-law, Charles Leclerc, arrived on the island to suppress the Haitian rebellion. Despite some military success, the French lost thousands of soldiers, mainly to yellow fever, and Napoleon soon realized that Hispaniola must be abandoned. Without that island he had little use for Louisiana. Facing renewed war with Great Britain, he could not spare troops to defend the territory; he needed funds, moreover, to support his military ventures in Europe. Accordingly, in April 1803 he offered to sell Louisiana to the United States. Concerned about French intentions, President Thomas Jefferson had already sent James Monroe and Robert R. Livingston to Paris to negotiate the purchase of a tract of land on the lower Mississippi or, at least, a guarantee of free navigation on the river. Surprised and delighted by the French offer of the whole territory they immediately negotiated the treaty. Jefferson was jubilant. At one stroke the United States would double its size, an enormous tract of land would be open to settlement, and the free navigation of the Mississippi would be assured. Although the Constitution did not specifically empower the federal government to acquire new territory by treaty, Jefferson concluded that the practical benefits to the nation far outweighed the possible violation of the Constitution. The Senate concurred with this decision and voted ratification on October 20, 1803. The Spanish, who had never given up physical possession of Louisiana to the French, did so in a ceremony at New Orleans on November 30, 1803. In a second ceremony, on December 20, 1803, the French turned Louisiana over to the United States. Thus at the stroke of a pen the land area of the United States was doubled without a shot being fired. The prophetic words of the ancient patriarch Jacob concerning his grandson Manasseh were fulfilled and his descendants became the “great people/nation” of the prophecy. (Read Genesis Chapter 48) Not long after the Louisiana Purchase, Jefferson sent out the pioneer explorers Lewis and Clark to discover a route to the Pacific Ocean. Their epic journey caused them to “walk through the land in the length and breadth of it for I will give it to thee” - Genesis 14:17. Following the Columbia River they reached the Pacific, claiming all the land between for the United States, giving that great and mighty nation “Dominion from Sea to Shining Sea” from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Had not God promised their ancestor Abraham and his descendants - "All the land which thou seest to thee will I give it and to thy seed forever” - Genesis 13:15.
THE SAXONS By Moana Finch
The Saxons can trace their descent back to Isaac, the son of Abraham. This name was chosen by God for this very special child, the child of Abraham’s old age - Genesis 17:19. The name means laughter - Genesis 21:6. Isaac was born after his parents were past the normal age for bearing a child. He was born for a special purpose; he was a spiritual child. He was a willing sacrifice when his father offered him upon the altar - thus an early type of Christ. Abraham was told that his seed were to be named in Isaac - Genesis 21:12. For this reason, we find modern Israel called Saxons and Anglo Saxons and not Israelites. The word Israel means ruled by God. Until we become worthy of this high title we shall not be permitted to use the name. It must be remembered that spurious Israel bears the name today - (See Ezekiel 11:15; Isaiah 48:1, 2;) Isaac was given all the covenants that God conferred upon Abraham and all the blessings have continued with his descendants. Later, when the Northern house of Israel was released from captivity to Assyria, she began her long trek across Europe. During this journey she was known by different names. The Phoenician name for them was BethSak the house of Isaac. They were known as Sakai, Sacae, Sak-Geloths, Saki, Saghs. The Behistun Rock mentions the Saki. On page 126 of “Tracing Our Ancestors,” Haberman states, “When Israel disappeared from the pages of history, the Anglo Saxons and the Goths were born.” (For anyone wishing to make a study of these people, chapter XI of this book is very valuable.) Sections of the Saki left the main trek and stopped off here and there along the way. This was God’s intention for them. “For, lo, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, like as corn is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth.” - Amos 9:9. Some stopped in Germany and lived in the district known as Saxony today. These are a type quite distinct from the Bavarians and Prussians. They are tall and slim, fair and with blue or grey eyes. They are so similar to the British that they cannot be distinguished from them. The rest of the Saki crossed over to Britain and there joined with other tribes of Israel that had preceded them. They are now the Anglo-Saxon Celtic peoples of the British Isles, of the coast lands of Europe and of the U.S.A. (Canada, Australia, New Zealand.) 1) Contemporary with the sojourn of the Israelites in Egypt, Grecian history informs us of the arrival in Greece of one named Danaus, the son of Bela, who had fled from his brother in Egypt. The Bible tells us that Dan was the son of Bilhalit, and that his brother, Joseph, was ruler over all the Egyptians. A statement of Hecatoeus of Abdera (6th century B.C.) confirms this Israelitish origin: “The most distinguished of the expelled foreigners [from Egypt] followed Danaus and Cadmus into Greece but the greater number were led by Moses into Judaea.” 2) It should be noted that Danaus was said to be the son of Belus, sometimes spelt Bela, which strongly resembles Bilhah, the name of Jacob’s concubine, the mother of Dan. 3) Of all the heroic families in Greece, none was more heroic than that of the Danans of Argos. 4) The name Danai is used in the Iliad 147 times. W E. Gladstone, in his Juventus Mundi, connects the Danai of Greece with the Tuatha de Danaan of North Ireland; this is confirmed by Irish tradition in Moon’s History of Ireland. Tuatha de Danaan means “Tribe of Dan.” 5) The old Psalter of Cashel says, “The Tuatha de Danaan ruled in Ireland for about two centuries, and were, highly skilled in architecture and other arts from their long residence in Greece and intercourse with the Phoenicians.” 6) In Genesis 49:17 Jacob (Israel) spoke of Dan thus: “Dan shall be a serpent by the way,” or “Dan shall be a serpent’s trail.” Another translation renders it : “Dan was to leave a meandering trail like a serpent’s wandering over the face of the earth.” 7) The tribe of Dan, part of which was situated north of the other tribes and near the sea coast, was also a travelling, adventurous seafaring tribe, and followed close after the exploits of the Phoenician sailors. When Jabin, King of Canaan, came against Israel, the tribe of Dan remained in ships. 8) In connection with the last two notes we find the peoples of Dan leaving their “trail” as they migrate north and west. The name is stamped all along Northern and Central Europe. For instance, the Dan-ube, the Dan-lester, the Dan-au, Dan-an, the Dan-inn, Dan-tzig, Dan-enbury, Dan-etz, the Dacia, the Dan-ric Alps and the Danish Archipelago. Also in Dan-iper (Dnipr) and Dan-mark or Denmark. In Ptolemy’s map of Ireland we find Dan’s-Lough, Dan-Sowar (Dan’s resting place), Dan-Sobairse (Dan’s habitation), and Dan-gan Castle. The old inhabitants of Ireland were called Dan-onians. 9) The ancient Vetus Chronicon Holsatice gives us the direct information that the Danes and Jutes were of the Israelite Tribe of Dan. In ancient history they were known as Dansk or Donsk and at the present day the Swedish word for Dane is still Dansk. 10) Though the English speak of Denmark it is DANmark to the DANish themselves and to the Swedish and Norwegian; DANemark to the Germans and DANemark to the French. 11) Dr. Latham in his Ethnology of Europe says: “The eponymus of the Argive Danai was no other than that of the Israelite Tribe of Dan.” 12) Hannay, in European, and Other Race Origins states that the “Danai who had dwelt in Dardania during Trojan days, but after the fall of Iliam (Troy) had crossed and given their name to the Dardanelles, retired northwards, their name never appearing again in Greek history.” 13) The historian, Geoffrey Keating, states: “The Danaaris were a people of great learning and wealth; they left Greece ... and went to Ireland, and also to Denmark, and called it Danmark, Dan’s country” 14) Keating tells us that after staying in Danmark for some time parties of the Danaan sought another settling place further afield and sailed across to the North of Scotland and later to Ireland. bringing with them relics from their old home in Greece. It is interesting to note that in the year A.D. 1824 various Greek coins between 2,000 and 3,000 years old were dug up in Northern Scotland (Estate of Cairnburg, Aberdeenshire). DANISH LUTHERAN PASTOR SUSPENDED FOR SAYING THERE IS NO GOD By Alexandra Alter A Danish priest was suspended Tuesday (June 3) for saying he does not believe in the existence of God or the afterlife. “There is no heavenly God, there is no eternal life, there is no resurrection,” Thorkild Grosboel, a Lutheran pastor, told the Associated Press in a recent interview. His comments have baffled members of Denmark’s state-supported Evangelical Lutheran Church and raised questions over whether a pastor must profess a belief in God to serve the church. Grosboel has been suspended from his pastoral duties in Taarbaek, a town north of Copenhagen, by the bishop of the Helsingoer diocese. In a meeting Tuesday, Bishop Lise Lotte Rebel asked Grosboel to retract his statement and issue an apology, saying his remarks have caused confusion within the church. “There should be no doubt that priests have committed themselves to act within the church’s confession of faith,” Rebel told the AP. Grosboel will meet with the bishop in her diocese 20 miles north of Copenhagen next week. Though just 5 percent of Denmark’s 5.3 million people attend church regularly, 85 percent of its population belongs to the Lutheran Church, and religious feelings among Denmark’s faithful can run strong. Recently a parish south of Copenhagen filed suit against a Denmark supermarket chain for selling flip flops that featured images of Jesus and Mary. Christian demonstrators who stormed one of the chain’s stores said the sandals made a mockery of their faith. While most church leaders have said that a pastor must believe in God and the Resurrection to serve the church, Mogens Lindhardt, the leader of Denmark’s Theological College of Education, told the AP he found Grosboel's comments “refreshing.” Despite the strong reactions Grosboel's words provoked within the church, the final decision over whether he should be defrocked falls to the Danish government’s ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs. Under Denmark’s Constitution, Lutheran priests are employed by the state and cannot be dismissed by bishops.
YWCA HIRES LESBIAN FEMINIST AS LEADER The Young Women’s Christian Association has hired Patricia Ireland to become its chief executive officer. She is the former leader of the National Organization for Women (NOW), a radical feminist group that is pro-abortion and pro-homosexual. She is also an admitted bisexual who has had a husband living in Florida and a female homosexual “partner” in Washington, DC. The focus may now be homosexual indoctrination of young girls, given her long history of promoting a radical agenda. She is a poor role model for Christian girls. - Calvary Contender, July 2003
The American Bible Society publication The Record (for March 2001) contained an article entitled “Adam and Eve in the garden of Truth,” which stated: “Genesis offers no hint that the narrative of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden was intended literally as a ‘true story’ ... it should be understood figuratively as a ‘true story’.” This is pure unbelief. In fact, Genesis offers no hint that the narrative of Adam and Eve is anything but literal history. Further, Adam is mentioned in the Bible 11 times outside of the book of Genesis, and in each case, he is treated as a literal man who lived in a literal garden with a literal wife, together with whom he committed literal sin against God's literal commandment and brought the literal human race into literal curse and damnation. The national Bible Societies, which are lumped together as the United Bible Societies, have been riddled with theological liberalism for more than half a century. In fact, the British & Foreign Bible Society was already accepting Christ-denying Unitarians in the early part of the 1800s. Our 75-page book “Unholy Hands on God’s Holy Word: A Report on the United Bible Societies” documents this apostasy. NEW ZEALAND LEGALISES BROTHELS By a margin of one vote, New Zealand’s Parliament has decided to legalise prostitution, ending three years of debate. MPs voted 60 to 59 in favour of the Prostitution Reform Bill, which drew strong opposition from churches and moral conservatives. It decriminalises prostitution and establishes a legal framework for the sex industry that will allow the operation of licensed brothels. As usual our mainland meetings for 2003 began with the annual March Convention at Glasgow - enthusiastic meetings have also been held at Shipley, Yorkshire and at Durham and Annfield Plain in May and August. Two trips have also been made to hold services at Orange Street Church London with two more anticipated. In April Pastor Campbell broke new ground by travelling to Europe. In Germany, he ministered in the Hanover area to a large and enthusiastic gathering of the C.A.I. a group who rejoice both in the Israel Message and the full experience of Acts 2:38. July and August saw the Pastor on his travels once again, this time to North America where very successful meetings and Conferences were held at Burnaby and Chilliwak in Canada and at Tacoma, Atlanta and Gaffney in the U.S.A. As ever the Lord confirmed the Word with Signs following. LET US ALWAYS BE ABOUNDING IN THE WORK OF THE LORD In I Chronicles 4:2l, the house of Shelah is especially quoted as being “weavers of fine linen”. It is interesting to note that ancient and authentic records in Ireland state that the linen trade came originally from Palestine. When coupled with these facts, we remember how universally popular the name Shelah or Sheilah is in Ireland. It seems probable that some of Shelah’s sons or descendants accompanied the Zarah colonists when they settled in Ireland, and that they introduced the linen industry to that country. We were saddened to learn of the deaths of the following friends and supporters of the Work.
“BLESSED ARE THE DEAD WHO DIE IN THE LORD”
“BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO MOURN FOR THEY SHALL BE COMFORTED” ”Still, if you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed, if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not so costly, you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance for survival. There may be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no chance of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.” Winston Churchill
‘Twas a sheep, not a Lamb, that strayed away in the parable Jesus told; a grown up sheep that had gone astray from the ninety and nine in the fold.
Out on the hillside out in the cold, ‘twas a sheep the Good Shepherd sought And back to the fold, safe to the fold, ‘twas a sheep the Good Shepherd brought.
And why for the sheep should we earnestly long, and so earnestly hope and pray? Because there is danger if they go wrong; they will lead the lambs astray.
For the lambs will follow the sheep you know, wherever the sheep may stray. Where the sheep go wrong, it will not be long till the lambs are as wrong as they.
And so with the sheep we earnestly plead for the sake of the lambs today. If the sheep are lost what a terrible cost the lambs will have to pay.
