Kingdom Tidings March/April 2006

Dear Co-workers, the Bible clearly warns us that there will be perilous times; nation will rise against nation, and men will be brutal, despisers of good, lovers of money, and treacherous. Evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. (2 Timothy 3:1-4, 13. Luke 21:10)

My reader, those perilous times have already arrived! Of course, we occasionally get a little good news, but it never seems to last long enough to dispel the gloom caused by rampant plagues and pestilences and the renegade environment. And there's deteriorating social conditions, strife, violence, crime, crises, insurgency and blatant terrorism; there's radicalism and widespread rebellion against righteousness; there's spiritual apostasy, and the proliferation of authoritarian vilification legislation (some of which has been justified by conditions existing in a hostile society).

But what about the contamination of land and water the health destroying physical pollution. And oh, the sinking feeling that grips us as we witness the deepening poverty, and the shaking economy and fiscal woes of our debt laden world. And on top of all this there's the apparent inability of leaders to find satisfactory solutions to the host of problems afflicting the commonwealth of nations.

We need a Saviour right now! But we don't find Him in the multitude of international organisations, or in the smorgasbord of philosophical alternatives out there. We find Him in the Word of God.

This Saviour is coming soon to reign on the planet earth as "King of Kings and Lord of Lords".

As you read the subsequent items of world news - you will see it is time not to GIVE UP but to LOOK UP.

A RECENT report says that although nearly two million people claim their "Icurrent religion" as Church of Scotland, only about 240,000 of the membership worship regularly.

Some people fear the Church is too much like "an exclusive club" and they want to remain free of it, but at the same time, keep allegiance to the Christian faith.

The report adds: "People know what they want from the Church: a good funeral, a happy wedding, a celebration of a birth, but they resist when the Church tries to take this further and seems to want to take over their lives."

THREE teenage girls in Central Sulawesi suffered a grisly death on October 29. The girls, all students of a Christian high school, were walking to school through a cocoa plantation when they were attacked by machete wielding men dressed in black. Therisia, Alfita and Yarni were beheaded. Another girl, Noviana, managed to fend off her attackers and run away, but suffered severe gashes to her face.

The severed heads of the dead girls were found several miles away from the bodies. One was placed in front of a church and the other two near a police station.

Pray for the grieving families and for Noviana, and pray against the renewed violence in Central Sulawesi.

FOR more than 50 years the Canadian Bible Society has welcomed immigrants in citizenship courts, offering them copies of the Scriptures. The right of the Society to do that was formalized in an agreement signed in 1998 with the government. At all times, it was made clear that acceptance of the Bibles was purely voluntary on the part of the recipients.

Now a Senior Citizenship Judge has removed the Society's freedom to present Bibles to new Canadians. In a letter to the Bible Society, Judge Simard noted that Canada is a multicultural nation where freedom of religion is guaranteed under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. His letter indicated that notwithstanding the agreement, "allowing holy books to be made available at citizenship ceremonies detracts from this message." - (Toronto / LifeSiteNews.com)

BEYOND the 10 nations that have declared nuclear arms, there are more than 40 countries with peaceful nuclear programs that could make weapons. Mohamed EI Baradei, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA, suggested last year that it was time to tighten world policing of nuclear activities and to stop relying on information volunteered by countries. - 22 Sept 04

Former foes, Turkey and Syria have signed a free trade accord and say they agree to put their differences behind them. During a two day mission to Damascus, Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and his Syrian counterpart, Mohammed Naji Otri, signed the deal.

"We are in agreement. We want a comprehensive co-operation in the region," said the Syrian premier, adding that Erdogan had also agreed to increase the flow of water into Syria. Regarding disputes over sharing of scarce water resources in the arid region, Otri said those problems "are now forgotten."

The free trade accord is the cornerstone of efforts to boost the newly found friendship between the two former foes.

Ankara and Damascus share concerns over the Iraqi Kurds' aspirations for self rule in a future federated Iraq as they both have sizeable Kurdish communities of their own.

We can almost say that Syria will definitely be allied with Russia in the endtime northern confederation. Both are "Kings of the North." So watch for signs of the growing Russian-German-Turkish-Syrian-Iran-Central Asia axis.

Thorkild Grosboll returned to his congregation after the Church of Denmark overturned the suspension that his bishop placed on the pastor. The bishop was concerned because Mr. Grosboll claims to be an atheist. His congregation welcomed their pastor back to the church with wine and snacks.

The recent death of King Fahd of Saudi Arabia created some concern from those nations that are dependent on Saudi oil. A top Saudi diplomat reassured all oil dependent countries that the Saudis would pump oil "to the best of our capability, with a reasonable price" - (CNN, August 2).

"Saudi Arabia holds a quarter of the world's known oil supplies, and crude futures set a new record of $61.57 a barrel after news of Fahd's death. 'I would like to reassure you of our government's pledge to continue King Fahd's legacy of providing the world with a stable and secure source of energy,' Rihab Massoud, the Saudi charge d'affaires in Washington, told reporters" (ibid.).

On March 24, 30 prominent Americans wrote a letter to President George W. Bush about an impending oil crisis. Former National Security Adviser Robert McFarlane, former CIA Director James Woolsey, former Assistant Secretary of Defense Frank Gaffney and others, including 12 retired generals and admirals, five former secretaries of defense and several retired senators and representatives signed the letter.

Oil is critical for the future of the Western world. Yet the Middle East, rich with that lifeblood of the world's economy, is a boiling stew of conflict of almost every kind. Bible prophecy tells us that it will eventually boil over, igniting a horrendous end time conflagration that will bring the human race to the verge of extinction.

Iranian police invaded the annual general conference of Iran's Assemblies of God Church on 9th September, arresting at least 80 church leaders gathered at the church's denominational centre in Karaj, 20 miles west of Tehran. Reportedly each individual was questioned separately by security officials, who had a specific list of questions. By evening, the authorities had released all the arrested Christians except for the 10 pastors among them. The location of these 10 men is unknown,and their families have not been allowed any contact with them. All the evangelicals released last night were forbidden to attend church services today."This is the biggest crisis for evangelical believers in the country since three Protestant pastors were murdered 10 years ago," another source told Compass.

Russia and China carried out joint military exercises in August with naval ships, bombers, fighter planes and 10,000 troops. Experts say these exercises weren't really about military training though they were intended to show how close Russia and China have become.

The scope of these exercises provided exactly the bold, dramatic step needed to grab the world's attention especially regarding the often threatened island of Taiwan. A senior Chinese military official even suggested the exercises were intended to deter the United States from taking action if the island moved toward independence and China responded with a military attack. A strong military ally for China clearly threatens Taiwanese independence.

As for the Russians, they have now demonstrated that they can carry out major military operations in at least two arenas simultaneously. Stratfor reported on August 16 that Russian President Vladimir Putin attended the MAKS 2005 international air show in Moscow demonstrating Russia's most advanced aerospace systems before traveling to observe the military exercises.

"Both exercises serve to reinforce a powerful message to the United States that Russia is still strong and has modern high tech means to defend its national interests at the time of a U.S. led geopolitical offensive against Russia. The exercises are thus intended to show that Russia could successfully resort to military means to stop Washington's encroachment into its adjacent areas, and that Russia has strong allies ready and able to cooperate militarily with Moscow."

A British geologist has warned that a tsunami, unleashed by an imminent collapse of a volcano in the eastern Atlantic, could destroy the US east coast.

Tsunamis are commonly caused by earthquakes under the sea, but scientists have determined that such gigantic waves could also be caused by collapsing islands.

Since an eruption in 1971 loosened a 12 mile wide chunk of the Cumbre Vieja volcano part of the Canary Islands, off the coast of NW Africa there has been a very real threat of an immense disaster.

Dr Simon Day, of the Benfield Grieg Hazard Research Centre at University College London, says the 500 billion tonne of rock could collapse the next time the volcano erupts. The collapse would send a 100m high tsunami racing across the Atlantic at 800-900 km/h. Waves would hit the west coast of Africa and the south coast of England within a few hours. Eight hours after the collapse, the US east coast and the Caribbean would bear the brunt. Waves would be capable of surging 20km inland, according to Dr Day's research. He first published his findings on Cumbre Vieja in 1999 after a two year study into the volcano.

He found that a mass of about 500 billion tonnes of rock is gradually detaching from the volcano and is already slowly falling into the sea. A major eruption by Cumbre Vieja could cause the whole rock to collapse and fall into the sea, triggering a catastrophic tsunami.

Dr Day and his colleagues told a conference on global geophysical disasters that Cumbre Vieja could blow "any time," and that it's only a matter of time before a killer tsunami hits New York and the East Coast.

Always remember that Jesus Christ's statements force an issue of will and conscience first, and only as we obey is there the understanding with the mind (see John 7:17). The challenge to the will comes in the matter of study, as long as you remain in the 'stodge' state there is no mental progress. "I am overwhelmed by the tremendous amount there is to know and it's no use my going on." If you will forge through that stage you will suddenly turn a corner where everything that was difficult and perplexing becomes as clear as a lightning flash, but it all depends on whether you will forge ahead.

When people say, "Preach us the simple Gospel," what they mean is. "Preach us the thing we have always heard, the thing that keeps us sound asleep, we don't want to see things differently"; then the sooner the Spirit of God sends a thrust through their stagnant minds the better. Continual renewal of mind is the only healthy state for a Christian. Beware of the ban of finality about your present views.

Large multi nationals always have had since 1919 ways to filter employment applications through a subscription to the Economic League which placed agents in the universities to infiltrate predominantly leftist and eco-warrior type groups. Their concern was to ensure that companies were not undermined by industrial action or by the type of terror which we have become familiar with as practised by this generation of eco-warriors. I am not sure if the League still operates today as its activities came under attack some time ago from the TUC and the Labour Research Organisation who declared its work contrary to 'human rights legislation'.

However, since then I have become aware of ways in which some people might be denied employment in the public sector (or tendering for work in the public sector) on the grounds of their political beliefs. All public sector organisations must have in their employment contracts as well as person specifications/job adverts a statement which reads as follows 'we do not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, gender or sexual orientation'. One subscriber to this newsletter has recently discovered that a certain professional regulatory body has been contacted about his political views and memberships and it has been argued that as he possesses such memberships and views he is not capable of acting professionally in his work but would discriminate on some of the forbidden grounds listed above. There will be other challenges of this sort which are designed to force people to publicly recant of their views and to submit to the new politically correct orthodoxies. This is the Holy Inquisition operating under a new secular guise. It is iniquitous and it must be resisted.

A Staffordshire school insisted that that all written references to Muhammad in GCSE exams must be accompanied by 'Peace be upon him' (or else marks will be deducted), a father otherwise willing for his son to learn about Islam, was branded 'racist' by the Head teacher for objecting to this Muslim indoctrination.

The true Christian has:

A MIND

through which Christ thinks,

A VOICE

through which Christ speaks,

A HEART

through which Christ loves,

A HAND

through which Christ helps.

Children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Christian school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. Someone had written a note and placed it next to the apples. It read, "Take only, one, God is watching."

Moving through the line, to the other end of the table, was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies.

One little boy wrote his own note and sneaked next to the cookies, "Take all you want, God is watching the apples."

Many will recall his visits to the United Kingdom and his tour of and ministry in Ulster in the 1980's. He was largely responsible for bringing Pastor Campbell to the USA.
