MINI BIBLE STUDY

REDEMPTION FOR ISRAEL

A) Before going to look at the Scriptures which will speak for themselves. We need to remember the basic principle that Redemption must be carried out by the nearest kinsman. Furthermore it was only possible to buy back, ransom or redeem, something that had been yours to begin with. Israel as a nation had been God's "peculiar treasure" from the very start (Exodus 19 v.5). With this in mind let us:-

B) Look at the Scriptures:-

'And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh. Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my firstborn ...' Exodus 4:22

'Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgements' ... Exodus 6:6

'But because the Lord loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt …' Deuteronomy 7:8

'... for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my first-born (who possesses the birthright). Hear the word of the LORD, 0 ye nations (of Israel), and declare it in the (British) isles afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd doth his flock.'

'For the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and ransomed him from the hand of him that was stronger than he.' -Jeremiah 31:9-11

'And it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that the LORD slew all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man, and the firstborn of beast: therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the matrix, being males, but all the firstborn of my children I redeem.' - Exodus 13:15

'And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem for a people to himself, and to make him a name, and to do for you great things and terrible, for thy land, before thy people, which thou redeemedst to thee from Egypt, from the nations and their gods?' - II Samuel 7:23

'Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed, this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.' - Psalm 74:2

'Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy...' - Psalm 107:2

'I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.' - Isaiah 44:22

'And they shall call them, The holy people, The redeemed of the LORD...' - Isaiah 62:12

'For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.' - Isaiah 63:4

'Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he hath visited and redeemed his people...' - Luke 1:68

'Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus...' - Romans 3:24

'And not only they, but ourselves (Judahites and Gentiles of Israel stock) also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.' - Romans 8:23

'But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us (Israelites) wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption...' - I Corinthians 1:30

'Christ hath redeemed us (Israelites) from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree...' - Galatians 3:13

'In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace..'. - Ephesians 1:7

'And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.' - Hebrews 9:15

'Forasmuch as ye know that ye ("scattered" Israelites) were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ (the Kinsman-Redeemer), as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.' - I Peter 1: 18-19

'And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us (Israelites) to God by thy blood out of every (Israelite) kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation...' - Revelation 5:9

'And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand (of the twelve tribes of Israel (see 7:4-8), which were redeemed from the earth.' - Revelation 14:3

MUST CHRISTIANS ALWAYS SUBMIT TO GOVERNMENT?

In the light of the teaching of some Ministers and Pastors today that Christians must meekly submit to even unjust laws, especially in relation to the Parades Commission, we would do well to read the words of the great Reformer, John Calvin.

He has this to say in his Commentaries on Daniel (1561, Lecture 30, on Dan. 6:22)

"For earthly princes lay aside their power when they rise up against God, and are unworthy to be reckoned among the number of mankind. We ought, rather, utterly to defy them than to obey them." (GR 41.25)

" Obedience to man must not become disobedience to God. "

How absurd would it be that in satisfying men you should incur the displeasure of him for whose sake you obey men themselves! The Lord, therefore, is the King of Kings, who, when he has opened his sacred mouth, must alone be heard, before all and above all men; next to him we are subject to those men who are in authority over us, but only in him. If they command anything against him, let it go un-esteemed. ... I know with what great and present peril this constancy is menaced, because kings bear defiance with the greatest displeasure, whose "wrath is a messenger of death" (Proverbs 16:14), says Solomon, but since this edict has been proclaimed by the heavenly herald, Peter - "We must obey God rather than men" (Acts 5:29) - let us comfort ourselves with the thought that we are rendering that obedience which the Lord requires when we suffer anything rather than turn aside from piety. And that our courage may not grow faint, Paul pricks at us with another goad: That we have been redeemed by Christ at so great a price as our redemption cost him so that we should not enslave ourselves to the wicked desires of men - much less be subject to their impiety (I Corinthians 7:23). GOD BE PRAISED.

THE PARABLE OF THE PRODIGAL SON

By

PASTOR JAMES TEMPLETON

"THE PROPHECY OF THE PRODIGAL SON"

A better name for this parable is "The Loving Father" or "The Father and the Lost Son". It has been called "the crown and pearl of all parables". George Murray said it is "the most divinely tender and most humanly touching story ever written". Charles Dickens described it as "the finest story ever written". The parable is in three stages - the rejection of home, the return to home and the reception at home. Someone has summed up the parable as at home, away from home and back home. As we consider the rejection of home, the words of the prodigal need to be considered in Luke 15:11-12,

"And he said, A certain man had two sons: And the younger of them said to [his] father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth [to me]. And he divided unto them [his] living."

The young man knew the law and believed that he was rightfully claiming that which he was entitled to according to law of Deuteronomy 21:16-17,

"Then it shall be, when he maketh his sons to inherit [that] which he hath [that] he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated,[which is indeed] the firstborn: But he shall acknowledge the son of the hated [for] the firstborn, by giving him a double portion of all that he hath: for he [is] the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn[is] his."

This law of inheritance entitled him to one third of the inheritance, his elder brother being entitled to two thirds. It was not unusual for a father to distribute his estate before he died, especially if he wanted to retire from the actual management of the estate. However the request of the younger son was callous and heartless, for he had no right to claim it during his father's life time, unless the father had already decided himself to give the inheritance to his heirs. The phrase used by the young man shows that he had never grown up, for "give me" is the first thing a baby learns when it wants something. Not content with obtaining his inheritance, the young man determined to leave home.

"And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living." - Luke 15:13

Augustine likens the far country to "forgetfulness of God". All the dissatisfied young man wanted to do was to fill his belly and live for the satisfaction of his sensual and sexual desires. This is a Kingdom Parable and therefore has its first fulfilment in the two brother kingdoms, Israel and Judah. When Jesus first told the parable He was showing that sinners were more ready to respond to His message than the Scribes and Pharisees. The identity of Judah and Israel was more clearly defined when Our Lord warned the Jews that the kingdom would be taken away from them.

"Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof." - Matthew 21:43

That nation was the so-called lost tribes of Israel. In "The Parables of the Kingdom", John J. Morey writes: "In keeping with the introductory parables of the lost sheep and the lost piece of silver our Lord is teaching the love of God towards the repentant sinner, but the great example of His love is seen in His treatment of His prodigal nation Israel. He is also showing the Jews that their brethren of Ephraim will obtain great blessing by returning in repentance to their Father, as compared with the self-righteous and unrepentant Jew." We can see how the attitude of the Prodigal Son was similar to that of Israel, who demanded his portion of the Kingdom and broke away from the Throne of David in about 931BC. True to the story not too many years later the younger brother symbolised by Ephraim fell into idolatry and journeyed to a far country, which was the Assyrian captivity in about 721BC. In Assyria he enjoyed idolatrous worship to the full, wasting his substance with riotous living, forsaking the true worship of Jehovah and all the laws and statutes including the health laws. In the Parable the young man not only lived in forgetfulness of God, but found himself in great difficulties when all his money was spent.

"And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want." - Luke 15:14

Instead of even considering home he joined himself to a citizen of that country. "And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him." - Luke 15:15-16

Dr. Herbert Lockyer in "All the Parables of the Bible" writes: "When men ---- and women ---- identify themselves with brute appetites, and like beasts, feed upon the world's garbage, how depraved they become." This young man had become so degraded that the only employment available to him was feeding unclean swine. The wage was insufficient to provide him with food, so that he ate the husks of the carob or locust tree. This tree was so named because its husks were shaped like locusts. After the removal of the seeds for human consumption, these pods were fed to the pigs. These seeds or locust beans have been called St John's Bread for the locusts eaten by John the Baptist were these seeds. Evidence indicates insect-locusts are a very poor source of food, incapable of sustaining human life. They only invade in colonies at certain times, so that it would be impossible for John to feed on them habitually. English grain dealers are said to supply carob pods as feed for cattle under the name "locusts". Recycling cattle feed with different ingredients has plagued our Farmers with "Mad Cows Disease". Writing of Ephraim, Morey says, "He joined himself to the citizens of Babylon, and tried to satisfy himself with their heathen customs, but all the time remained unsatisfied and hungry, with an inherent desire to return to the true worship of God."

We will now consider the return to home.

"And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!" - Luke 15:17

Dr. Herbert Lockyer writes: "Perishing with hunger, the young fellow thought of home with all its comforts and well-filled larder. Extreme hardness induced reflection." Vincent in his Word Studies says "this striking expression ---- came to himself ---- puts the state of rebellion against God as madness. It is a wonderful stroke of art, to represent the beginning of repentance as the return of a sound consciousness. Wretchedness stirred reason, and a sinner is half way on the road to salvation when he comes to himself."

He decided to return home, even as a hired servant.

"I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants." - Luke 15:18-19

Slaves remained with families for generations, and were regarded as part of the family. The younger ones had grown up with the family. The only outward difference in their status was that they never wore shoes or sandals. However, hired servants were the lowest rank of slaves. They were only day labourers and did not live in. Speaking of this return to home Morey writes: "Eventually Ephraim-Israel came under the influence of Christianity, and by the time he had founded a home in Britain, and had heard the gospel of salvation clearly preached, he began to come to himself and repent. He compared his own lot with that of the hired servants, who probably represent the nations of the four Gentile kingdoms carrying out the Divine purpose during Israel's punishment. He saw their prosperity, and compared their advantages with his own as a wanderer without a settled home; he witnessed their comfortable conditions even under the pagan, and later the Papal, religion, and longed for a return to the worship of the God of this fathers." Those of us who have been given understanding of the Scriptures know that God had a special plan for this wandering nation, for when David was king of all Israel in Palestine the prophet Nathan informed him of Israel's new land. 2 Samuel 7:10

"Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime." - II Samuel 7:10

The Prophet Isaiah even tells us where this land is to be located.

"Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name." - Isaiah 49:1

"Behold, these shall come from far: and, lo, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim." - Isaiah 49:12

A line drawn directly north west of Jerusalem passes through the British Isles. This land was called "Ultima Thule" by the Romans and is mentioned in the commission of Acts 1:8

"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."

When the gospel was first proclaimed, very early in Church History it was brought to Israelites living in the appointed place. They would have this new land permanently and "move no more", and "as before time" indicated, they would never again become captives to their enemies. John Morey explains this and writes: "The repentance of the prodigal is doubtless the conversion of Britain to Christianity, more especially since the Reformation era. By the year 1800 the punishment term of Ephraim came to its close, and at this time a notable epoch was reached in British history. The great Wesley Revival shook the land: our Missionary and Bible Societies were formed and became active, and the younger son came to repentance." Prior to World War II, the British and American nations had acquired more than two thirds of the cultivated resources and wealth of the world. This was acquired suddenly, after 1800. The British and American People have quite rightly been described as the people of the Book because they are Israel.

We will now examine very briefly the reception at home, because we intend to show the twofold fulfilment of this parable.

"And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put [it] on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on [his] feet: And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill [it]; and let us eat, and be merry: For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry." - Luke 15:20-24

Morey writes: "THE FATHER'S WELCOME. While he was yet a great way off his father saw him, and ran, and gave him a great welcome. So long ago as the first century God prepared for the son's return; the Christian Church was planted here by the apostles, and when Ephraim-Israel arrived he came to a land prepared for him. England has become the home of the Christian evangel, and the Father is now putting on the best robe; is placing the ring on his hand, signifying his re-adoption as son and heir, and shoes on his feet. The prodigal son is restored, and is becoming quite respectable in appearance, bearing all the marks of restoration to the home and heart of the Father."

This was perfectly true in 1933 when Morey wrote these words. Sadly things have changed, and the parable appears to have come unstuck. Does this mean the British Israel Students have been mistaken, and this parable can no longer be treated as a Kingdom Parable? Of course not! We intend to show that the parable has a twofold fulfilment. We must understand that we are living in a new era. This new era is called the time of Jacob's trouble.

"For, lo, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith the LORD: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it. And these [are] the words that the LORD spake concerning Israel and concerning Judah. For thus saith the LORD: We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace. Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? Wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness? Alas! For that day [is] great, so that none [is] like it: it [is] even the time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be saved out of it." - Jeremiah 30:3-7

It is important to understand that all twelve tribes have inherited their new land, for God turned the captivity of Judah and Israel. Remember only 5% of all Jews are Judahites. The History of this nation reveals that they are descendants of the Great Russian nation known as the Khazars, who became Jews in the eighth century AD. The Zionists and the Ashkenazim are in fact Amalekites, descendants of Esau. Ireland and Scotland and possibly Wales represent Judah, and England and America Ephraim and Manasseh. In the parable a new element has disrupted the homecoming. There is trembling, fear and no real peace. People are afraid. Britain has lost her greatness. Daniel also foretold this change.

"And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation [even] to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book."

"And I heard the man clothed in linen, which [was] upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that [it shall be] for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these [things] shall be finished." - Daniel 12:1 & 7

As these two periods of 1,260 years have been fulfilled, we are already in this new era of Jacob's trouble. If you want to understand these time periods I have written a booklet called "Minutes to Midnight" and will gladly send you a free copy. In "Britain's Future from now until the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ", Dr. Michael Bennett writes: "Just a generation ago Great Britain was the richest and most powerful nation on earth, the head of the Commonwealth and ruler of the mightiest empire this world has ever seen, upon which, it was proudly boasted, "the sun never sets."

Today Great Britain is a poor and weak member of the Common Market; her empire is no more, and the Commonwealth is in almost total disarray. True, other empires have fallen more quickly, but only as the result of crushing military defeat. Great Britain was victorious in both World Wars which took place during the years in question, yet still her power was broken. Dr Bennett explains why? He says, "The real cause of our sudden an unprecedented loss of power never was, and still is not, external. It was, and remains an internal matter and concerns the relationship of the British people to their God and His law, Proverbs 29:18,

"Where [there is] no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy [is] he."

This is confirmed in Proverbs 14:34, "Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people."

Rudyard Kipling must have had an insight of this in his Recessional:

Far called, our navies melt away;

On dune and headland sinks the fire:

Lo, all our pomp of yesterday

Is one with Nineveh and Tyre!

Judge of the Nations spare us yet,

Lest we forget ---- lest we forget!

If, drunk with sight of power, we loose

Wild tongues that have not thee in awe,

Such boastings as the Gentiles use,

Or lesser breeds without the Law ----

Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,

Lest we forget ---- lest we forget!

Another reason for the nation's decline has been her determination to join with citizens of Babylon when God speaking through the lips of Balaam tells us plainly Israel is not to be reckoned amongst the nations and is to stand alone.

"For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations. Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth [part] of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!" - Numbers 23:9-10

How encouraging to read that Israel's latter end will fulfil this Scripture. The prophet Jeremiah tells us how God will do this great thing.

"Therefore fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, saith the LORD; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make [him] afraid. For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished. For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD; because they called thee an Outcast, [saying], This [is] Zion, whom no man seeketh after." - Jeremiah 30:10, 11 & 17

diamond.gif (591 bytes)

Since 1948 British people who had made their homes in British Colonies have been returning in mass. At the present time many British people who have jobs in Europe are leaving and returning home. The Europeans are treating them as second class citizens, and some of them are given jobs that Europeans regard as undignified. Before long we can expect all these people to return very rapidly, as they become more and more unpopular in Europe. This will fulfil Isaiah 26:20-21,

"Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee: hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast. For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain."

These British people have been brought back for judgement followed by revival. This great revival will also take place in the desolate heritages. This includes nations belonging to the once great Commonwealth as well as other Israel lands in Europe and the United States. It will begin in Israel-Britain's homeland here called "the wilderness of the people." The Scriptures describe the fruits of this revival, for all idols will be removed.

"Wherefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye polluted after the manner of your fathers? And commit ye whoredom after their abominations? For when ye offer your gifts, when ye make your sons to pass through the fire, ye pollute yourselves with all your idols, even unto this day: and shall I be enquired of by you, O house of Israel? [As] I live, saith the Lord GOD; I will not be enquired of by you. And that which cometh into your mind shall not be at all, that ye say, We will be as the heathen, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone." - Ezekiel 20:30-32

According to Cruden's Concordance wilderness is from the Hebrew "midbar". He writes: "The Hebrews gave this name to all places that are not cultivated, but are chiefly destined to the feeding of cattle, and on which trees grow wild. So when wilderness is mentioned in Scripture, we are not always to imagine it to be a place forsaken, abandoned, void of cities or inhabitants; as the word often represents the soil near a city or village which was appointed for pasture, and where the plough never came. Thus in Scripture, there are few cities which had not their wilderness, that is, uncultivated places for woods and pastures."

It is evident that the Lord will have to deal with them in judgement before they will be prepared to listen.

"[As] I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out, will I rule over you: And I will bring you out from the people, and will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out. And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and there will I plead with you face to face. Like as I pleaded with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I plead with you, saith the Lord GOD. And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant: And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I [am] the LORD." - Ezekiel 20:33-38

These foreign gods include many Hindu deities as well as the Moslems' Allah. They also include Chinese and Japanese deities, and Papal deities like the Queen of Heaven and the Wafer God present in every Roman Catholic Church. We must not rule out Buddha, and a host of other foreign deities. Lucifer is worshipped by those involved in witchcraft, who secretly make their children pass through the fire, and is also worshipped under other names including Father, and the God of this world by Spiritualists. Freemasons worship Jabulon, who is a combination of Jehovah, Baal and On or Osiris of Egypt. They also worship "The Grand Architect of the Universe". If these people and others do not repent, they will be removed from the land, and their religious shrines will be demolished. Many Statues of the Queen of Heaven throughout Britain, including Ireland, will be demolished. Aliens who refuse to obey Israel's laws will be deported to their own lands. Even Christian Converts in Heathen lands testify through the ministry of the Spirit that the greatest revival yet to come will be in Britain.

Now we will return to the parable. We see the situation has been reversed and in her new land Israel-Britain has again become the prodigal son, having joined herself to the citizens of Babylon. The nation is under judgement, and will not prosper while she remains joined to Babylon. There is every reason to suppose she will be put out of Europe, for she cannot see they no longer want her, having sucked her dry. Now they are even stealing our fish, but once they see that all has been plundered, Britain will be put out. By this time Britain will experience spiritual famine and dearth. At the moment there is a spiritual famine fulfilling Amos 8:11,

"Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD."

The revival will be the Elijah ministry. This does not require that Elijah must come, for Lord spoke of John the Baptist as Elijah.

"For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. And if ye will receive [it], this is Elias, which was for to come." - Matthew 11:13-14

John fulfilled Isaiah's prophecy and not that of Malachi 4:4-6,

"Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, [with] the statutes and judgments. Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse."

The turning of the hearts of the fathers to the children is the reception of the Identity message, acknowledging that we are the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. In preparation for the Lord's coming it will fulfil Acts 3:21, "Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began." At this time Isaiah 51:1-3 will also be fulfilled,

"Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek the LORD: look unto the rock [whence] ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit [whence] ye are digged. Look unto Abraham your father and unto Sarah [that] bare you: for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him. For the LORD shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the LORD; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody."

So we can see how the rejection of home and the return to home has this twofold fulfilment. We will now consider Israel-Britain's repentance and the reception at home.

"And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, and am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son." - Luke 15:17-21

From these verses we can see how low Israel-Britain must go before this great event can take place. How wonderful to know that Our Heavenly Father is patiently waiting for the prodigal nation to repent and return, now no longer a great nation, but reduced to the poor sick man of Europe. Consider this marvellous reception at home:

"But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put [it] on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on [his] feet: And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill [it]; and let us eat, and be merry: For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry." - Luke 15:22-24

The Father does not give his Son a chance to ask to be a servant, but provides him with shoes, for he cannot allow His Son to be like the slaves who were unshod. The robe stands for honour, and in this instance a nation clothed in righteousness. The ring stands for authority. It was a signet ring and therefore gave him the power of attorney. All these benefits will immediately restore Great Britain as God's special Royal Nation. Although the fatted calf typifies the death of Christ, it signifies much more, for it was killed to provide a feast described in Revelation 19:7-9,

"Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready. And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white, for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed [are] they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God."

Here we have the remarriage of Jehovah-Jesus to His divorced wife. There is another aspect of the reception at home which is quite sad. Luke 15:25-28,

"Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing. And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant. And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound. And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him." - Luke 15:25-28

Who is this elder brother? In the first instance it is the self-righteous Pharisees and the Jews who rejected Christ, and lost the kingdom. Then when the Jews had another opportunity to be part of the kingdom, and the throne of the Lord, they rejected Israel-Britain in 1948, fulfilling Ezekiel 11:15,

"Son of man, thy brethren, [even] thy brethren, the men of thy kindred, and all the house of Israel wholly, [are] they unto whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, Get you far from the LORD: unto us is this land given in possession."

Why such hatred? YHWH says in Revelation 2:9

"I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and [I know] the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but [are] the synagogue of Satan."

"Esau-Edom" despises true Israel.

Now we will answer this question. Who is this elder brother in the parable's final fulfilment? Ephraim's elder brother is Manasseh. When Jacob blessed the Sons of Joseph Manasseh was to become a great nation.

"And Israel beheld Joseph's sons, and said, Who [are] these? And Joseph said unto his father, They [are] my sons, whom God hath given me in this [place]. And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless them. And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father's hand, to remove it from Ephraim's head unto Manasseh's head. And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father: for this [is] the firstborn; put thy right hand upon his head. And his father refused, and said, I know [it], my son, I know [it]: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations. And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee shall Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh." - Genesis 48:8, 9 & 17-20

The Pilgrim Fathers who were nonconformists left for the New World in pursuit of religious freedom in 1620 in the Mayflower. They suffered desperate hardships, battered by storms after first sighting land, and finally arrived on 25th December 1620. They included both Puritans and less strict "Strangers". They called their new home Plymouth Bay, electing John Carver as their first governor. This small beginning became that "Great People" of the USA. After about 200 years of colonisation and dependency on Britain, these thirteen colonies rebelled and drew up the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Despite this loss of the thirteen American Colonies, Britain was still destined for expansion as the Company of Nations.

"For thy waste and thy desolate places, and the land of thy destruction, shall even now be too narrow by reason of the inhabitants, and they that swallowed thee up shall be far away. The children which thou shalt have, after thou last lost the other, shall say again in thine ears, The place [is] too strait for me: give place to me that I may dwell." - Isaiah 49:19-20

This having been fulfilled, the parable foretells that the "Elder Brother" who is still a great nation, will despise his younger brother. The Americans have many patriots who believe that they alone are the New Jerusalem. They feel that all the evidence points to this, for Britain now exerts no power and very little influence. They might even argue that they are having many revivals including the dubious "Toronto Blessing" in the land they believe to be re-gathered Judah. They sometimes speak disparagingly of the British Royal family, believing that another Davidic Royal family will be established in Canada, and that the Stone of Destiny will again be removed from Edinburgh Castle when Britain is punished for her wickedness. They certainly cannot see themselves as being the Elder Brother. Notice that the elder brother refused to go in, until he was re-assured by his Father. The "Stone of Destiny" is that stone from whence the waters flowed to supply well over a million Israelites with water for themselves and their flocks in the wilderness. It was moved to Edinburgh from Westminster Abbey, its resting-place for many centuries, possibly because the Abbey has been desecrated by the presence of Roman Catholic Cardinals, Hindus, Buddhists, Moslems and heretics of every creed and race. The Holy One of Israel could no longer look upon the stone anointed by Jacob so long ago. The Scripture makes plain that this stone belonged to the Tribe of Ephraim.

"But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty [God] of Jacob; (from thence [is] the shepherd, the stone of Israel:)" - Genesis 49:24

It was removed and taken out of the Kingdom, into Judah, the Sanctuary, Psalm 114:1-2,

"When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language; Judah was his sanctuary, [and] Israel his dominion."

However by this time in the events of the parable, the "mighty dollar" may well have failed. It is my view that this great nation called America will be forced by the "Illuminati" to grovel and even become a part of the now all powerful "Holy Roman Empire" or "New World Order" cemented together in the Pope's words by the Roman Catholic Church. Either they join, or the mighty dollar no longer has any value. This will be the judgement that the self-righteous "Elder Brother" will have to suffer. America will be brought down as low as Ephraim-Britain before she can be lifted up again. America like Britain will be forced to join "the club"

"Be in pain, and labour to bring forth, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in travail: for now shalt thou go forth out of the city, and thou shalt dwell in the field, and thou shalt go [even] to Babylon; there shalt thou be delivered; there the LORD shall redeem thee from the hand of thine enemies." - Micah 4:10

They cannot be delivered unless they are already in Babylon. Both nations have been responsible for arming their national enemies to the hilt. Britain and France sold arms to Iraq, and America has sold them to China and Japan. Iran and Iraq once the great empires of Persia and Babylon, will also become joined to Europe. The former USSR will be combined with this vile Resurrected Babylonian Empire. Those who think the Russian Bear - the same creature that was once Persia - has lost its military teeth need to think again. Manasseh's judgmental attitude can be seen in the following verses of the parable.

"And he answering said to [his] father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf." - Luke 15:29-30

Although the things he said were true, we have shown that the rulers behind all governments are the "Illuminati" , responsible for the foretold ruin of Britain, and that these also rule in the United States, having at the moment permitted this nation to maintain a measure of her greatness as a world power - but this will not last. America too will be brought down as we have shown. Ephraim and Manasseh will soon be under judgement to fulfil Isaiah 26:9 "With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments [are] in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness."

During World War II, a righteous king occupied the Throne of David. Many times King George VI called the nation to prayer. Churches were filled and while His judgements were in the earth, this nation turned back to the God of their fathers. At the time the US President was a wicked member of the "Illuminati". There was no need for America to aid Britain as the Mighty God of Jacob wrought the deliverance. It is rather sad that these two nations will suffer from the sword of other nations, but only to bring them back to the Holy One of Israel. It may well be true that Manasseh has many churches filled to capacity, despite the scandals wrought by so many great and famous evangelists. The great scandal of a president who is a disgusting whoremonger will affect the nation. I remember at Bible College being taught that it was frequently true of the saying "like Pastor like Church". If this is true, can we also say "like President like Nation"? Solomon wrote in Proverbs 14:34

"Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin [is] a reproach to any people."

"Illuminati" plans for One World Government include America but these will collapse when God delivers both Britain and America who after being impoverished and ruined by this system, will both leave or possibly be forced out of the "New World Order" by circumstances - or when they refuse to toe the line any longer. Scripture will again be fulfilled and God will say of Jacob:

"Thou [art] my battle axe [and] weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms." - Jeremiah 51:20

It appears that the elder brother is finally reconciled to the prodigal son

"And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine. It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found." - Luke 15:31

We can be sure that Manasseh will be at the Marriage Feast. In his book, John J. Morey closes with this poem:

Father and home, we come again,

Sin-sick, homesick, ashamed, subdued,

Our wanderings o'er, our foolish ways

Repented, longing for the love

We idly spurned in ages past.

The far country has failed to hold

Or satisfy our hungry soul.

The husks were empty, and the charm

Soon faded, as a gay mirage

Allures, then dashes hope away,

We would return, though birthright claims

Were forfeited, and plead the grace

Redeeming love has brought, that we

Withholding naught, but giving all

May serve, devoted to Thy Will.

David Howard's resignation triggers a review by D.C.'s new mayor…..

SOME WORDS ARE DEFINED BY MORE THAN THE DICTIONARY

By Linton Weeks

Washington Post Staff Writer

Thursday, January 28, 1999; Page A1

'Niggardly'. Say it fast. Like many words, it means different things to different people. Especially when said out loud. To those aware of its ancient origin, niggardly means stingy and has absolutely no documentable racial overtones. To those who don't know the word, niggardly conjures up dark images of mean-spiritedness and racism. To David Howard, who resigned Monday as the head of the District's Office of Public Advocate, niggardly could mean an abrupt end to a public service career. There may be more to Howard's resignation than meets the eye, or the ear. The new mayor, Anthony A. Williams, who's under fire from some quarters for "not being black enough," said yesterday that he would re-evaluate the situation. But if one believes Howard's public statement, that he used the word innocently and in its correct context and that he "would never think of making a racist remark," then the fact that he lost his job over a misheard word is truly remarkable. The episode began, Howard said, after a Jan. 15 meeting with the mayor, when he reported to aides Marshall Brown and John Fanning that there would not be much money available for the constituent services office.

Howard said: "I will have to be niggardly with this fund because it's not going to be a lot of money."

Both Brown, a black veteran government worker, and Fanning, who is white and also has worked for District government, looked stunned at Howard's words. Howard, who is white, said he immediately knew that the two men were unfamiliar with the word, which he learned while studying for his SAT tests as a high school junior. Brown stormed out of the office as Howard tried to explain and offer an apology. Two days later, Brown called Howard at home and asked him to apologise, but Howard said "he didn't want to hear what I had to say" about the word.

In Howard's next conversation with Brown after the two men returned to work, he asked Brown not to spread any rumours "because he knew what was actually said." Brown said he hadn't spread any rumours. But then Howard started getting calls from people in the community. The callers said they had heard he "lost it" because of a barrage of complaints that came into his office on the day of the ice storm. And that he was supposed to have said "I'm tired of all these N-words calling me with their problems."

Howard said he would never use such a "nasty" word. Furthermore, he didn't recall his office getting many calls about the ice storm.

All over Washington yesterday, folks were debating whether Howard should have resigned. People pointed out other common words whose contemporary meanings are supercharged. "A chink in the armour," said one Asian American, can be taken more than one way. So, he said, can "a nip in the air."

And there are others, like "niggling," that could also be confusing.

Larry Webster, owner of the Lemon Bowl Deli at the corner of Georgia Avenue and Irving Street NW, understood Brown and Fanning's concern.

"We call each other ... this and ... that," said Webster yesterday, using the word he heard in "niggardly." He looked up from preparing rotisserie chicken sandwiches for two young black customers.

"But you come in here talking like that," he said, pointing to a white reporter, "and we'll kick your ... "

Webster, 57, had heard about Howard's resignation and had read the story in the newspaper. But the word, he said, just sounds bad. "I'm sure he didn't mean anything by it, but I can see where it was highly offensive. Maybe he should have used another word."

He added, "In these days and times, everybody has thin skins. And bosses have to be sensitive."

Kay T. Payne, who teaches communications at Howard University, observed, "On the one hand, I know the word 'niggardly' to be a legitimate word that has no racial overtones. The context is extremely important," she continued. "If it were used half-jokingly, in a humorous situation, it has a different meaning. The person knows they are saying something that could have racial overtones."

Louisa Gaiter, a 19-year-old biology student at Howard, agreed with Larry Webster. "When you are in a higher position," she said, on her way across the sunny campus, "you have to watch what you say."

Gaiter wasn't really sure what the word meant, but she understood how someone would be offended by any word with that awful sound in it.

Accounting student Anthony Murray, 18, adjusted his backpack and said that the incident had been the focal point of his morning English class. Niggardly, he said, is a word he would feel comfortable using or hearing. "It's a good word to use in an English paper."

Cabdriver James D. McLaughlin, who is black, looked up the word years ago, so he knew what it meant. He imagined that whoever had been offended by Howard's language was not familiar with the word's meaning. Besides, he said, he believes in the adage: It's not what someone calls you; it's what you answer to.

Of niggardly, Mike Agnes, editor in chief of Webster's New World Dictionary said, "I would not hesitate to use it, but I'm in an office with 15 other people working on a dictionary." He does, however, avoid using words – like "forte" – that might confuse his listener. "Everybody wants to be understood whether he be a speaker or a writer." And what if we lose this word for all time because of the confluence of political correctness and miscomprehension? "Aaaach," Agnes said, "we lose words every day. Language is always in process, always in flux, always changing, particularly from generation to generation. We lose words, we lose dialects, we lose entire languages."

He added, "Because of its multiplicity of influences, its wealth of synonyms and its accumulated literature, people hold up the English language as one of the great achievements of civilisation, of mankind."

"Niggardly" and the noun "niggard" have been traced back to the 1300s and the words nig and nigon, meaning miser, in Middle English. It may have earlier roots in older languages.

There have been other incidents involving loaded words. A food reviewer for the Dallas Morning News, for example, caused a similar controversy last year by reporting that a certain restaurant had bland food because of "a niggardly hand with seasonings." The chef, as it turned out, was black. The paper ran a clarification immediately, apologising to any readers who misunderstood the use of the word. Because of the incident, however, the newspaper has decided to avoid the use of the word, said Sue Smith, an editor.

The word also shows up occasionally in Supreme Court decisions. "It is time we stopped being niggardly in construing civil rights legislation," wrote Justice William O. Douglas in a 1970 opinion.

Sebastian Sosa, 22, said that he associated the word, niggardly, with the word that offends people. Standing in the Museum of American History at an exhibit that chronicles the difficult migration of African Americans from the South to the North, Sosa said, "I think I understand why the people were offended, because of what you see on the walls here today."

Sosa and Angela DeSanctis, 21, who is white, were visiting Washington from Evangel University in Springfield, Mo. "If I heard it, not knowing what the word meant, I would say 'Whooo!' " DeSanctis said. "You always have to be careful what you say."

Museum volunteer Anita Malone, 68, who is also white, placed her copy of Ralph Ellison's "Invisible Man" on the snack bar table. She said she tries to avoid words and phrases that might be misunderstood, like "black thumb" for someone who kills everything in the garden. She says "purple thumb" instead.

Poet E. Ethelbert Miller, who directs the African American Resource Centre at Howard, said, "I think that as a society we have to be a little more mature about our use of language. If a person uses a word and apologises for it, I don't think that person should be chased out of office."

"The city," he said, "has other problems besides how you spell a word or how you pronounce it."

(Staff writers Yolanda Woodlee and Vanessa Williams and researcher Margot Williams contributed to this report.)

Please note that there is a "dictionary" entitled "Forbidden American English" containing 1400 words that we are all expected to study and avoid using. When will American White people wake up and say, NO MORE and mean it?

NIGGARDLY FLAP CALLED PC ABSURDITY

By Jennifer Harper

THE WASHINGTON TIMES, January 28, 1999

He could have said "cheap." He could have said "tightfisted." David Howard, however, said "niggardly" -- a 427-year-old word that means stingy. Two city employees mistook the word for a racial epithet. Mr. Howard apologised, then took his mea culpa a step further. He resigned Tuesday from his position as an aide to D.C. Mayor Anthony A. Williams, who later said his aide lacked judgement in using the term. Mr. Howard agreed. "It was poor judgement using that term," he told CBS yesterday. The mayor, meanwhile, ordered an investigation of what a few local wags later called "Niggardlygate."

"This is the height of absurdity. If I didn't know the details of this story, I'd assume it was a parody," said Alan Kors, a history professor at the University of Pennsylvania and co-author of "The Shadow University," a book detailing the negative side of political correctness on American campuses.

"This must be the first time in history that someone's ignorance of the English language cost another person their job," Mr. Kors said. "We're living in an astonishing state of terror under [political correctness]. People now must be responsible for their actions as well as the implied meanings of their words."

"Niggardly" is not the only word to come under fire in the often excruciatingly sensitive climate of political correctness. Some of this editing is legitimate. In recent years, 167 words were removed from the official Scrabble dictionary because of their potential to be offensive. The words include everything from "fatso" and "goy" to "poof" and "honky." Sometimes, however, simple tradition suffers. A half-dozen hymnals have been revised to include "gender inclusive" language that does not assign a sex to God or military connotations to religious fervor. "Onward, Christian Soldiers" and "Faith of Our Fathers," two favourite hymns of the Christian church, are among those bounced from the hymnals of some denominations. Last week, America Online removed its on-line thesaurus because it included words that could be interpreted as slurs by homosexuals.

Many college campuses abide by language codes that have been combed for hints of racial, gender, sexual or ethnic distinctions. Even the word "integration" was deemed too controversial on the Cornell University campus at one point.

Schools, businesses and the military have responded to this enhanced consciousness by offering various forms of "sensitivity training," which spells out the parameters of offence. It is a tricky business. The origins of the two words in question in the D.C. controversy -- "niggardly" and "nigger" -- are completely different. The first is of Scandinavian origin, while the second is Spanish and Portuguese.

"This situation proves that the power of what we hear is often stronger than the power of our own knowledge," said Deb Burnes of dictionary publisher Meriam-Webster.

"Technically, [Mr. Howard] selected a word which is correct," she said. "But he could have chosen another word, which would not have caused so much emotional fallout afterwards. This is not a language issue, it's a societal issue."

In his 1997 book, "The End of Sanity: Social and Cultural Madness in America," Martin Gross blames political correctness on the "New Establishment" -- a select coterie of academics, lawyers, military officials and clergy.

This "group of anti-intellectual conformists," Mr. Gross wrote, replaced good sense with "stringent dogmas that must be obeyed if one does not want to risk ostracisation." The results include, among other things, political correctness, a weakened military and "a new McCarthyism that controls what people can say and write," he said. Mr. Howard's gaffe -- or non-gaffe, as the case may be --turned up yesterday on talk radio and television reports and will almost certainly serve as a bellwether of the PC wars.

While "niggardly" does not appear among the 1,400 taboo terms listed in the reference book "Forbidden American English," it does warrant a cautionary flag in "A Dictionary of Modern American Usage," which acknowledges that "some speakers and writers have come to shun it just to avoid misunderstandings."

Meanwhile, Mr. Williams said yesterday that he agreed with Mr. Howard's decision to resign. The "emotion sparked by the comments" compromised his former aide's ability on the job. The mayor did not rule out the possibility that Mr. Howard could find a job elsewhere on his staff.

NACCP HEAD: WORD FLAP HANDLED INCORRECTLY

By DEB RIECHMANN

Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) _ The chairman of the NAACP says Washington Mayor Anthony Williams acted in a "niggardly'' way by accepting the resignation of an aide who offended some people by using that word in a conversation.

"You hate to think you have to censor your language to meet other people's lack of understanding,'' Julian Bond said today, noting "niggardly'' means stingy and has no offensive connotation even though it sounds similar to a slur.

"This whole episode speaks loudly to where we are on issues of race. Both real and imagined slights are catapulted to the front burner.''

David Howard stepped down after receiving complaints about his use of the word in a conversation with other city officials. Williams, who is black, accepted the resignation of Howard, who is white, saying initially that his aide showed poor judgement even though he "didn't say anything that was in itself racist.''

The mayor back-pedalled a bit Wednesday, the day after Howard resigned. The mayor said an investigation was under way and Howard might return to the staff - in a different job - if he's ultimately judged to have done nothing wrong.

"Seems to me the mayor has been niggardly in his judgement on this issue,'' Bond said pointedly by phone. In addition to being chairman of the largest civil rights organisation, Bond, who is black, teaches at the University of Virginia and is a student of language.

"We have a hair-trigger sensibility and I think that is particularly true of racial minorities,'' he said. "These affronts

do happen, they are expected to happen, and even innocent parties can find themselves victims.''

Sentiment on the street was split. Some residents say Howard, a former Williams campaign worker who handled citizen complaints for the mayor's office, is guilty only of poor word choice. Others say he should have realised ahead of time how the word might be wrongly received.

"There's quite a bit of hubbub, quite a bit of buzz about it,'' said Kojo Nnamdi, black host of a public interest talk show at WAMU radio. "It's indicative of the state of race relations in Washington. A simple explanation should have sufficed. When it comes to race in Washington, apparently a simple explanation doesn't get it.''

Jim Deely, a 49-year-old white advertising manager who grew up in Washington, says it was only a misunderstanding. "Howard resigned too soon and Williams accepted it too fast,'' he says.

Godfrey Clarke, 54, a professional painter who was born in Trinidad and moved to Washington 31 years ago, says Howard shouldn't have resigned at all.

"People make a big deal,'' said Clarke, who is black. "It's just politics. You make a little mistake and you're in hot water.''

But Marcus Marshall, 22, a black employee in a sporting goods store, said Howard did the right thing in stepping down. "I don't agree with him saying that kind of word. He should be punished because it's so close to ... a degrading word.''

Dictionaries and other language references trace the word to Scandinavia and attribute no offensive meaning to it. It is not even in the Forbidden American English, a dictionary of 1,400 "highly offensive and often inflammatory'' words and phrases. But the possibility of confusion is raised in A Dictionary of Modern American Usage, a new reference published by Oxford University Press. The word has no connection to the racial slur, the book says. "Even so, some speakers and writers have come to shun it just to avoid misunderstandings.''

Author Bryan A. Garner, who is white, said modern sensibilities should be taken into account when using legitimate but problematic language. He recalled an incident at the University of Texas when a professor called a Supreme Court ruling "niggardly'' in class and black students asked later whether he had insulted them.

PRAY. "Call upon Me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shall glorify Me" - (Psalm 50:15)

SEEK THE DEEPER MEANING. "Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?" - (John 11:40)

LEAN UPON THE WORD. "Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who cornforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God" - (II Corinthians 1:3, 4).

TRUST IN THE LORD. "Trust in Him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before Him: God is a refuge for us" - (Psalm 62:8).

CONSIDER THE BENEFITS. "We glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope; And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us" - (Romans 5:3-5).

PRAISE THE LORD. "Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the narne of our Lord Jesus Christ" - (Ephesians 5: 20).

PUSH ON. "This one thing 1 do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 1 press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" - (Philippians 3:13,14).

New Year Prayer

May we have courage to begin again!

Faith that through all the bewildering maze

Of these transitional, challenging days

Good may yet increase

And, however the year goes, well or ill,

May we through comfort of Thy presence still

Find surpassing peace.
